Cars

1965 Corvair

Jul 9th, 1969

After the 57 Chevy rebuild hit a roadblock, my parents graciously handed me the keys to this car, signaling the end of its roadworthy days. Unfortunately, it was on its last leg.

In a curious twist of fate, when my brother Bob got his license, he was bestowed with the use of our dad's Mustang and a gas card. Two years later, I found myself behind the wheel of this aging vehicle, sans the luxury of a credit card. To earn money for my next car, I resorted to pumping gas.

With its engine situated in the back, we used to load friends onto the rear to see if we could achieve the improbable—pop a wheelie. Is it any wonder that the car's lifespan was predictably short-lived?
