Hikes

The Grand Canyon rim to rim

Apr 8th, 2000

When Kia was maybe 13 we visited the Grand Canyon for the first time and hiked a mile down Bright Angeles Trail. The walls were so high that I asked Kia to sing so that her voice would bounce off the walls for all to hear!

I vowed that we would return and hike across the entire canyon. Since I had never done anything like that before, I don't know if she thought that I was just all talk. We set our date and began to train for the 18 miles down and the 9 miles out with 5,000 feet of elevation loss and gain at both ends.We closed Multi Media for the week and every one of my employees and their spouses made the hike. We rented an RV and Kim dropped us off at the desolate North Rim and she drove around the canyon to pick us up the next day at the South Rim.

It was a very tough hike indeed, with many blisters and mule skin needed, but every last person made it out alive!!!

We camped out at the bottom in tents that we packed in ourselves. This was an EPIC hike of a lifetime! Here we are at the north rim, still all smiles!
