#2 JONES GAP STATE PARK

                                                                                                         May 3rd 2023

This was my second SC State Park visit in pursuit of the coveted Ultimate Outsider Award. Spring is the perfect time to visit this amazing park, it was as green as you can imagine, and the baby leaves were fantastic! This was supposed to be a two mile hike, but the Ranger said to turn left after you cross the small bridge. That left hand turn took me to the handicapped parking lot, so I turned around and made my way up the trail. The trail was very rocky since the whole area is basically a river bed. I missed a turn at a well placed sign thinking it was a closed trail, and after going an additional quarter mile up stream, a kind family, that knew the area, put me back on track. For a Tuesday day, there were a lot of hikers, three families, several couples, and at least three single hikers. The water fall was amazing indeed. Getting off track made a 2 mile hike into an almost 4 mile hike, but it is always an adventure. I look forward to going back to this park to hike the 6 miles up to Rainbow falls.
