Malibu Creek State Park, last time

May 6th, 2022

It was bittersweet riding Malibu Creek State Park yesterday for the last time!

MCSP is the Yosemite of Southern California, hands down!

I know every inch of this park through our many rides and hikes, so it was fitting that I made this my last ride in California!

This park is home to so many movie and TV locations like the Planet Of The Apes set, and the Mash unit, just to name two.

I have seen the park with beautiful flowers in the spring, dry as a brick in the summer, after torrential rains that brought down huge trees and took out bridges, and after two horrific fires!

The park has a flowing creek with two dams, the main lake and dam being Century Lake. The ducks and swans call this home.

The bridge across the water to the Mash unit was still out, and the rains washed out the logs we used to pass, so I started hauling some new logs and trees over to see if I could get my bike across. Another hiker was helping me haul a large tree over when two park rangers drove up. I was sure that we were in trouble, but the rangers helped us carry the tree and helped lift my bike over, AMAZING!

It was a great but sad ride. This will be my last hiking/biking post from California. My next post will be riding the 22 miles Swamp Rabbit Bike path right through downtown Greenville up to Traveler's Rest.

Stay tuned!
